The two most common ingredients in colon cleansing products are natural ingredients. Psyllium husk and bentonite clay are both effective for colon cleansing. Psyllium husk is a plant fiber and bentonite is an edible volcanic ash.
Psyllium Husk Or Powder
Psyllium husk or powder is a gentle cleanser for the colon. Psyllium husk is known as Isabgol and Plantago syllium. Psyllium husk will form a gel when you mix it with water and this same gelling action takes place in your digestive tract.
When psyllium husk passes through your digestive tract, it draws toxins from your system and it will bind with fats to remove them. Since Psyllium husk has such a drawing effect, it will pull moisture out of your body too. You will need to replace the water that is lost by drinking extra water when you are taking psyllium husk.
Bentonite Clay
Bentonite clay, also known as volcanic ash, is used as a bulk laxative for colon cleansing. The bentonite clay binds with heavy metals, chemicals, viruses, bacteria and toxins and can bring bacterial balance to the system. Bentonite clay can stimulate liver function and improve the digestion. Bentonite clay will draw moisture from the body so it is important to drink lots of water when you are taking bentonite clay for colon cleansing. There are different healing clays and it is suggested that if bentonite clay does not work for you to try another healing and edible clay for colon cleansing.
Colon Cleansing Shake
It is possible to make your own shake from bentonite clay and psyllium husk by blending 1 tablespoon of liquid bentonite clay and 1 teaspoon of psyllium husk powder in a large glass of water or juice. Shake this mixture and drink it quickly. Follow this with another glass of juice or water because you want to avoid any psyllium in your throat since the psyllium will swell. Drink one of these a day or you can work up to two a day. Drink this mixture for a few weeks to cleanse the colon.
When you understand the natural and common ingredients that are used in many colon cleansing products, you may be more apt to try them. You can even make your own gentle colon cleanse shake if you are not ready to purchase colon cleansing products.
